The Artist

James Grant
Hilton Head Photo Decor

Since 1978, James (Jim) Grant envisioned a unique, yet affordable method of combining traditional paint, ink, and pastel "techniques" along with his mastered style of photography.
The stunning collection you see before you is the result of over 25+ years of both formal and self taught instruction into the "finer-points" of landscape photographic art of the Lowcountry in South Carolina.

Jim's featured style of tranquil, mostly monochromatic images of Hilton Head Island and surrounding coastal regions has become very popular and has helped to create a long over-due acceptance of quality landscape photography as a viable form of art.
"During the 'early days', both my Dad and I were met with a considerable amount of animosity regarding photographic-art as a ready-made, low-talent involved process, yet most of these same people are now our best repeat clients", Grant said. "They, as well as others, have come to recognize my work as creatively solid and masterfully executed portraiture of the low country environment."

A 23 year native of southeastern Michigan, Jim majored in photography at The Center for Creative Studies in downtown Detroit. Inclement weather conditions up north made Hilton Head Island a potential 'snow-bird's' paradise.
Upon his arrival in October of 1978, Jim discovered untold potential in which to practice his quest. Quiet pristine marshes, lagoons, forests and of course the Atlantic shore found their way on to film from Jim's camera and formed a 20+ year base of operation.

"Chances are, you won't see the Island like you will in my photography because it just isn't there anymore. Growth and development have tremendously changed Hilton Head the way it used to be...and this is why my collection is so very precious to me and others who know of the past."
